The Knights of Saint Andrew is a chartered service organization within the Scottish Rite, designed explicitly for 32nd Degree Masons. Established in 1993 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Knights have become integral to the life of the Scottish Rite, actively participating in reunions and various Valley activities. The organization’s primary mission is to provide social and fraternal activities for its members and serve the Valley through various service projects and initiatives.
Following its humble inception in Tulsa, the Knights of Saint Andrew quickly expanded to other Oklahoma Consistories in Guthrie (1993) and McAlester (1994). By 1998, the first Chapter outside Oklahoma was established in Wichita, Kansas. Today, the Knights of Saint Andrew have Chapters from coast to coast, a testament to their widespread appeal and the dedication to the principles they uphold.
In Blue Lodges, Masons are taught the core principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Within the Scottish Rite, the Knights of Saint Andrew not only uphold these principles but also emphasize the great virtues of Knighthood: humility, patience, self-denial, charity, generosity, compassion, virtue, truth, and honor. Each of these virtues is symbolized by a block in the tartan that represents a Chapter of the Knights of Saint Andrew.
Establishing a new chapter requires authorization from the Sovereign Grand Inspector General (SGIG). Once authorized, the Chapter typically begins as a group of 32nd Degree Masons who draft their Constitution and operating procedures, set their meeting schedules and dues, and elect their officers.
The Valley of Orange County (formerly Santa Ana) was the first Valley in California to establish a Chapter of the Knights of Saint Andrew. Since its inception, the Valley of Orange County has played a leading role in assisting other Valleys in the Orient of California to establish their Chapters, fostering a spirit of brotherhood and service throughout the state.
The Knights of Saint Andrew continue to uphold the traditions and values of Freemasonry, providing service and leadership within the Scottish Rite and exemplifying the highest virtues of Knighthood in their communities.
